One of the recommendations of the Task Force Report on the Public Service proposes that county boundaries be adopted for the organisation, delivery and evaluation of services and programmes, to ensure coherence of service delivery at local level. An Garda Síochána began the process of realigning its operational boundaries with county boundaries in 2008 and this Report outlines the processes involved in such a change project and includes a Best Practice Template. This Case Study and Best Practice Template is relevant to and applicable in other public service arenas and will inform any organisation addressing service planning and delivery structures.
